Doubleday Medical Schools Patient Partnership Collaboration
Established by the Director of the Doubleday Centre, Professor Robina Shah, in November 2020, the Doubleday Centre Medical Schools Patient Partnership Collaboration (DCPPMSC) is a network of UK medical schools that meets each quarter as a community of practice.
What we do:
- We act as one community of practice to promote and embed patient, carer and public involvement (PPI) in medical education.
- We share our experience of what models work well and explore what more can be done to promote patient partnerships and wider public involvement across the MBChB programme.
- We use evidence-based practice to facilitate change and improvement to PPI in medical education and across wider health education.
- We act as a key stakeholder group for various organisations that deliver, train or regulate healthcare services and professional practice.
The Doubleday Medical Student Prize
We attach great importance to student engagement with PPI. The Doubleday Medical Student Prize, which is funded by the Doubleday Trust Fund, will help to achieve this objective.
It is organised by the Doubleday Medical Schools Patient Partnership Collaboration and is hosted annually by the Royal Society of Medicine.
Our network
Our core purpose through the network is to bring relevance and validation of the diverse contribution that people with lived experience of the health care service make in shaping the training of our future doctors and other healthcare professionals.
A key focus is to extend our students’ teaching and learning about the value of partnership working with patients through the lived experience of patients, service users and carers.
In addition, by acting as a key stakeholder and strategic reference group, we will be best placed to contribute towards future healthcare policy, especially the education and training of our future healthcare workforce.
Currently, we are working with the General Medical Council and NHS England.
