The multidisciplinary tracheostomy team from Wythenshawe Hospital received an award in recognition of their work improving quality and safety of care, both in the UK and globally, at the 5th International Tracheostomy Symposium, Melbourne, Australia. The team led a QI program implementing work originating from MFT into 20 diverse UK sites, presenting keynotes at the Melbourne World Congress of Intensive Care. The group is currently working with NHS England to develop a national program of tracheostomy quality improvement.

See www.tracheostomy.org.uk for more details of the program, which could save the NHS over £230 million per year going forwards.

The team took time to network and forge future collaborations with the international delegates, and mixed with some non-academic locals who were also at the Congress!
