Brendan McGrath, a consultant in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine at Wythenshawe Hospital, has been promoted to Honorary Chair at the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre MAHSC. This was based primarily on Prof McGrath’s work with MACC improving the safety and quality of care for patients with tracheostomies in critical care. The original safety work was pioneered by the ICUs across Greater Manchester and led to the development of the UK National Tracheostomy Safety Project and the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative. Brendan and the MACC team have won a number of awards for their work which you can read about on the NTSP website.

Prof McGrath said, “I am delighted with this appointment as Honorary MAHSC chair, which recognises all of the work that the multidisciplinary team have put in over the years to improving safety for our critically ill patients. Hopefully, this will lead to new collaborations and projects to further our work locally and beyond.
