Staff development
We provide free PRiME (Professionals in Medical Education) staff development workshops and events throughout the academic year.
These are designed to help GP Clinical Placement Supervisors (CPS) and members of the practice team develop their teaching skills and knowledge of the MBChB course.
All PRiME Core: CPS, PRiME Advanced and PRiME Team sessions count towards the yearly training requirement of six hours for the practice that is written into your tutor contract, and they can be used for your GP appraisal. We do not charge you or your staff to attend these courses.
PRiME Core: New Clinical Placement Supervisor (CPS)
The PRiME Core: New Clinical Placement Supervisor workshop is a 2 hour session that covers all the basics of getting started in teaching undergraduate medical students. It covers the basics of what is involved in being a Clinical Placement Supervisor, and how to teach medical students (using examples from your own experience of teaching and being taught). And also feedback (both giving and receiving) and assessment of students on placements, with some advice on what to teach in clinical practice.
N.B. The session will be delivered via Zoom.
Currently, we require at least one GP CPS at your practice to have attended this training before you take students, but all GPs and allied healthcare professionals who work directly with our students are encouraged to attend.
Sessions consistently receive good feedback from attendees, and are relaxed and informative.
PRiME Core – New Clinical Placement Supervisor workshops [2hrs] will run throughout the year.
Visit the PRiME Core website page page for more information and a list of events that we are running. You can also sign up for an event via that page.
