The Mental Health Social Care Incubator team were delighted to attend the 15th International Conference of the European Network for Mental Health Service Evaluation (ENMESH) in Versailles, France, on 4-6 July 2024.

Incubator Co-lead Michael Clark gave a keynote presentation entitled ‘The future of mental health is social’; and Mike, along with Adam O’Neill and Bryn Lloyd-Evans, presented a symposium on ‘Mental Health Social Care: Nourishing a Neglected Research Field in England’. This covered: Scoping the Field of Mental Health Social Care; Developing Research Capacity in Mental Health Social Care in England; and Social Interventions in Mental Health: Evidence Review and Development of a Conceptual Framework.

The conference was a fantastic opportunity for the team to raise the profile of mental health social care and connect with colleagues from around the world. The concept of mental health social care is now beginning to gain traction within research communities, and it was incredibly encouraging that the team’s message was so positively received. We hope to build from the connections made at the conference and, in the future, come alongside our international colleagues to consider what mental health social care might look like outside of the United Kingdom.
