PRIMER members and researchers have co-developed a suite of workshops to provide practical advice for researchers interested in public involvement and engagement.

All patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) training sessions are co-facilitated by researchers and members of PRIMER to ensure that workshop attendees receive insight and expertise from both a researcher and a public contributor perspective.

Researchers new to PPIE

• Introduction to Public and Patient Involvement (PPIE)

Researchers with experience of PPIE

There are a number of different training sessions available to researchers at The University of Manchester who either have experience of PPIE or have attended the introductory training session.

These workshops include:

• Masterclass: Setting up a PPIE Group
  This masterclass is suitable for researchers who plan to incorporate public involvement into their research, supporting you to develop a strategy for setting up a PPIE Group. For more information and to book your place, please visit the University’s training and development catalogue.

• Masterclass: Communication Skills in Public and Patient Involvement (PPIE)
  This masterclass is suitable for researchers who would like to improve their communication skills in the context of involving the public in their research, with a focus on managing expectations, dealing with conflict, negotiating with participants and collaborative working. For more information and to book your place, please visit the University’s training and development catalogue.

External researchers and the public

We have developed a number of bespoke training sessions for different Centres and Institutions. We also offer training for members of the public who would like to learn about research and public involvement.
