Information for professionals

Are you a health professional working with service users of Sub-Saharan or Caribbean descent (including Black British and Mixed Heritage) who are 14 years old or over and have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or psychosis?

If so, you could refer them to a new innovative study assessing whether 10 one-hour sessions of Culturally adapted Family Intervention (CaFI) reduces the risk of relapse in Black and Mixed Heritage people.

Service users can take part with a family member, a nominated person or a CaFI volunteer, and are paid £30 across 12 months.

How to make a referral

  1. Identify service users on your caseload who meet the criteria (see below).
  2. Email the CaFI research team (CaFITM@gmmh.nhs.uk) with:
    • the service user’s name;
    • the service user’s NHS/PARIS number;
    • a short referral summary.

If the person referred is not suitable for CaFI, the team may forward the referral to other research trials within the trust, if deemed appropriate.
