The DARE project book Resisting Radicalisation? Young People’s Journeys through Radicalising Milieus has been published by Berghahn Books (November 2023).

The book is a collaborative outcome from the project and presents a critical perspective on the concept of radicalisation substantiated by the findings from empirical research across Europe. Taking the perspective of social actors who engage in radical(ising) milieus but, for the most part, have not crossed the threshold into violent extremism, it argues against the inherent end-point determinism of the concept of radicalisation. Instead, it suggests, radicalisation must be understood as a relational concept reflecting a social process rooted in relational inequalities but also shaped by interactional and situational dynamics, which not only facilitate but also constrain movement towards violent extremism.

The book is available in hardback, paperback and online (Open Access) at: https://www.berghahnbooks.com/title/PilkingtonResisting
