Dr. Felix Bongomin is an academic physician specialising in internal medicine and medical mycology. Currently serving as a respected lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology at Gulu University, Dr. Bongomin has made significant contributions to the field of fungal diseases epidemiology and research. With a keen interest in pulmonary aspergillosis and other fungal infections, Dr. Bongomin has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding of these conditions and developing effective treatment strategies.
During his PhD Dr Felix Bongomin will be addressing the main fungal complication of TB – chronic pulmonary aspergillosis or CPA. He is studying the natural history of CPA in people in Uganda, their immune system abnormalities and collecting DNA for later work on genetics. He is also leading Africa’s first antifungal treatment study of CPA.
His research work has earned him recognition both nationally and internationally. Dr. Bongomin is an esteemed Fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (FECMM), a prestigious title that highlights his expertise and contributions to the field. Additionally, he has played a crucial role as a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Advisory Group on the fungal priority pathogens list, contributing his knowledge and insights to the global fight against fungal infections.
