Do you already work with businesses, social enterprise, and charities in attempts to transfer your academic knowledge and create impact across different sectors in the UK? If so you might be able to develop an Innovate UK funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).

Join us on Thursday 12 August at 11am for the next SEEDs of Change workshop:

Building Non-Academic Partnerships and Impact through Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

KTPs fund a Research Associate for 4 – 24 months to work directly on transferring knowledge into a business, social enterprise or charity (while simultaneously increasing that institution’s competitiveness and productivity). Recent projects funded in the School of Environment, Education and Development include projects with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Artesia Consulting, and Voice IQ Ltd (with the Department of Computer Science). The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures has two recent projects with the National Trust and Port Sunlight Village Trust.

In this session you can find out more about KTPs and how they can help to enhance and deepen non-academic partnerships and, ultimately, research impact. We will cover how you can apply for a KTP, and a few examples of current Innovate UK KTP projects. The examples will be from projects in SEED, but the discussion will be relevant to colleagues across the Faculty of Humanities.

Agenda

  • Introduction: KTPs as a way of deepening non-academic partnerships and impact – Ali Browne (SEED Associate Director Research: Business Engagement (Non-Academic Partnerships)).
  • Overview of other support available through the Humanities Business Engagement team – Rachel Kenyon
  • What is a KTP and how do I apply for one? – Business Engagement Team
  • Q&A for Business Engagement Team
  • Case study: Voice IQ Ltd – Terry Hanley, Manchester Institute of Education
  • Case study: Artesia Consulting – Ali Browne, Geography
  • The perspective of a KTP Associate – linking to graduate outcomes  – Joe Cahill (previous MSc Environmental Governance student)

How to register

Please register via Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/building-non-academic-partnerships-and-impact-through-ktps-tickets-165006144821. We’ll email the Zoom link in advance of the session.

Can’t attend or want to develop an idea further? How to get in touch:

If you are a member of SEED and have an idea you think might be appropriate for an Innovate UK KTP please email Joanne Summers (Knowledge Exchange Manager, Humanities) joanne.summers@manchester.ac.uk and cc Alison Browne (SEED Associate Director Research – Business Engagement) alison.browne@manchester.ac.uk. Joanne works extremely closely as a grant writer and support person for the nominated business and Manchester colleague and is the first point of contact to assess the suitability of your idea for development into a KTP.
