Join us for a discussion about how researchers can use social media to publicise and encourage engagement with their work.

Whether you love or loathe social media, for many, it has become a daily part of the work of an academic. This session will provide some space to reflect on the different ways that academics are using social media to publicise and encourage engagement with their work. Specifically, we’ll focus on how academics might use social media to increase the reach of their research and enhance its impact on relevant stakeholders.

Dr Mark Carrigan, Lecturer in Education at the Manchester Institute for Education and author of Social Media for Academics (Sage, 2019), will share some thoughts on the opportunities social media offers for public engagement while cautioning about the pitfalls which overly high expectations can lead to in the digital public sphere.

Emma Richmond, Research Communications and Engagement Manager, will outline a variety of resources that academic colleagues may wish to tap into.

This will be a hybrid event with the option to attend either in person or online. Please register for either an online or in-person ticket.
