Reflections on the project launch event

The PGR Well Bee-ing Project had its launch event on Monday 12th November. There were two sessions, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Both sessions were well attended by postgraduate researchers (PGRs) from across the University, and staff from the project advisory group and group leads also attended.

The sessions were an opportunity for PGRs to find out more about the project, and about ways that they could get involved. A key element of the PGR Well Bee-ing Project is co-production, for PGRs at the University of Manchester to participate in activities and to inform practice, so that we can create change together.

Claire Faichnie (PGR and Researcher Development Manager | Graduate Education Team), introduced each session, outlining the aims and scope of the PGR Well Bee-ing Project, and contextualising these within wider national objectives. PGRs were then split into four groups, each with a representative from one of the following work-streams: 1) PGR wellbeing: prevalence and triggers, 2) PGR engagement with the ‘six ways to wellbeing’ framework, 3) PGR representatives: the role, its challenges, and sources of support, and 4) Wellbeing apps for PGRs. The project staff members moved round the PGRs, allowing each group to find out about each part of the project, and what activities they could get involved in.

The launch event was a success, lots of PGRs signed up for activities in the coming months; their valuable input has given the project team food for thought, and we look forward to working with our PGR community as the project develops.
