Village Stories Launch

Our Research Software Engineer have been working with a team of Humanities researchers to produce an interactive website for an ESRC-funded research project.  The website will collect people’s memories of Manchester’s Gay Village and hopes for the future.  Initially it was planned to collect the stories in person but the advent of COVID-19 forced a change of plan to an online site. This is where Research IT came in to help.

Research Lifecycle Programme Update

Webinar: Using Overleaf for Literature Reviews

Following the high interest in the ‘Using Overleaf for Literature Reviews’ webinar, the Overleaf team will be re-running this session on Thursday, 25 February (3pm – 4pm).

This webinar would be of most relevance to Post Graduate Researchers (PGRs) who have just joined the University, or people who are new to working with Overleaf.  This session contains a general overview of Overleaf, as well as an overview of how to make best use of it for Literature Reviews.

Overleaf Professional accounts are available for researchers, staff and PGRs at the University. Overleaf is the tool of choice for many who would like to use a collaborative, online LaTeX / Rich Text editor for their work or research projects.

The webinar will focus on topics such as:

  • How to use Overleaf to draft a literature review and make notes, including adding citations and integrating reference management tools
  • How to share work with your supervisor and collaborators for feedback
  • How to keep your work organised including version control and drafting journal papers with templates

Webinars: Qualtrics survey tool

QualtricsXM, a powerful, simple to use survey tool was recently launched at the University, available to all staff and students. The IGO recommends Qualtrics as the University’s preferred survey tool.

Qualtrics is being utilised across the University for research, student surveys and Professional Services.

If you are new to using Qualtrics or want to find out more about how it could benefit your research, the Qualtrics team will be hosting a training webinar – Surveys for research (Tuesday 23 February – 2pm – 3pm)

This webinar will cover topics such as:

  • Survey design and distribution for research
  • Using the Response Quality feature to identify poor quality data
  • Using Offline Mobile App to capture data offline (eg for interviews or field research)
  • Opportunity for Q&A

You can sign up to either of these sessions by following the link below. After registration, you will get an email with the webinar joining details. If you have any queries, please contact rlp@manchester.ac.uk
