Expert clinics

Get one-to-one guidance from patient and public involvement and engagement teams, information governance experts and technology specialists to support you as you begin your research.

Information governance clinic

As part of the Health Research from Home programme we are offering members of our community a unique opportunity to get detailed advice to advance their research. Our information governance (IG) clinics allow you to book a one-to-one, hour-long meeting with an IG expert.

Within the one-hour timeslot the IG expert will help you to identify and understand the IG issues related to your planned activities, and how you might go about resolving those issues. You can book onto to a single clinic session or a series of clinic sessions over time.

What can be covered in a clinic session?

Any IG issue related to a new, or current digital health research study including topics such as study set-up, applying for approvals, data classification, data collection, data flows, storage, and processing as well as data sharing.

How to book

You can book a clinic slot through Microsoft bookings.

You will be asked to complete a short form providing details about what you would like to discuss in the session.

Patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) clinic

Our PPIE Clinics will provide advice and guidance to researchers who want to involve patients and the public in their health research from home projects. Discussions will be varied and will depend on your specific research. Some examples of possible discussions include:

  • Who should I involve in my research and why?
  • How to work with communities traditionally underserved by research.
  • How to set up a PPIE group.

Technology clinic

Our technology clinics allow you to book a one-to-one, hour-long meeting with a digital health research technology expert. They’ll help you to identify and solve issues in prospective studies and activities. Discussions will be specific to your research project but could include advice on:

  • device selection;
  • running data collection platforms;
  • developing backend or frontend infrastructure;
  • publishing apps;
  • using existing solutions.
