My top tips for managing busy academic periods

Exam season can be very stressful, however, with a good preparation it becomes extremely easier to smash your exams. Here are my top 5 tips and things I did as postgraduate student to excel in my semester one exams.

Tip 1: Stay Up-to-Date with Your Modules:

Keep pace with your modules by reviewing lecture slides after each lecture and taking concise notes. Following this approach, you will save time when revising for final exams. You will not have to spend a lot of time re-watching those long lectures and tedious articles and most importantly, you will have more time to process information.

Tip 2: Organise Your Exam Schedule:

Once exam timetable is released, create a clear list of all the exams, know the date and time. Also, know the format of exams (on-campus or online exam). Knowing these details will help you prepare effectively and locate your exam venues if needed.

Tip 3: Prioritise Your Revision:

Allocate your revision time based on exam dates and the difficulty level of each exam. For example, focus on exams with earlier dates or those that are more challenging and require additional preparation and concentration, especially if they are on-campus.

Tip 4: Create a Structured Study Plan:

Set yourself a strict timetable and revision slots. Give yourself enough time to take breaks to recharge and socialise but keep focus during study sessions. Also, leverage tools like calendars, apps, or planners to track your progress and organise your time effectively and efficiently.

Tip 5: Leverage Collaboration and Support:

Collaborate with friends and classmates if needed. Don’t be scared to reach out for support. Attend office hours for clarification with professors. Asking for needed help can improve your understanding on the material boosting your confidence leading up to exams.
