Why should you attend an Offer Holder Day?

Starting university is undoubtedly one of the most exciting yet nerve-wracking experiences, and I can relate to that feeling all too well. Before I began my own university journey, I had my fair share of doubts and uncertainties about what to expect. That’s why I believe attending an Offer Holder Day is such an invaluable experience. It offers a unique chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant campus atmosphere, giving you a taste of student life and helping you visualize what your day-to-day experience will be like. You’ll meet potential future classmates who share your interests, connect with academics who will guide your learning, and get to explore the facilities you’ll soon be using. Most importantly, it’s a golden opportunity to have all your lingering questions answered, whether it’s about the course structure, accommodation options, or student support services. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a greater sense of clarity and confidence, feeling not only more prepared but also excited to embark on the next chapter of your academic journey.

For example, when I was applying to university, I was uncertain about whether to pursue a placement year or take advantage of a study abroad opportunity alongside my degree. I was torn between the two options and unsure which would align best with my career goals and personal aspirations. Attending the Offer Holder Day gave me the clarity I needed to make an informed decision. During the event, I had the opportunity to speak directly with student ambassadors who had opted for both placements and study abroad experiences, hearing their first-hand accounts of what each option entailed. With their insights I was able to make a decision that felt right for me, feeling confident that I was choosing the path that would best support my future goals

Having worked at Offer Holder Days as a student ambassador, I can give you a good sense of what to expect. The day typically includes an overview of university life, an introduction to your degree, a taster lecture, and a Q&A session with students and academics. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by a student ambassador or staff member who will guide you to the event. The day begins with a comprehensive introduction to university life, covering topics like student halls, societies, and funding. Then, you’ll attend a taster lecture, which gives you a real feel for what lectures will be like and a chance to see if the learning style suits you.

Lastly to wrap up the end of the day, there’s usually an engaging Q&A session with a diverse panel of students, staff and academics. This is your golden opportunity to ask any lingering questions you have—whether it’s about the course content, campus life, accommodation options, or any support available to students. The student ambassadors will share their first-hand experiences, offering valuable insights into what it’s really like to study and live in Manchester, while the academic staff can provide a deeper understanding of the curriculum, assessment methods and academic expectations. No question is too big or small, and the informal, open nature of this session ensures you leave feeling informed and confident in the big decision you’re about to make. All in all, offer holder events are a great way to gain valuable insight into university life and gain clarity on any uncertainties you have.
