Why should you attend an Offer Holder Day?

Hey there, I’m Lilia, a penultimate year Geography BSc student and current Geography Society (MUGS) President! If you’re reading this, it’s because you’ve received an offer to study at the University of Manchester, so I’d like to first congratulate you on this incredible milestone in your academic life!!

Now, you’re thinking about your next steps, want to see the university for yourself (if you haven’t already) and get a real feel for what studying one of our geography courses here could feel like, and even ask some of your future lecturers some questions you might have about the course. An offer holder day (OHD) can provide you with the answers you’re looking for.

I remember being in Year 13 attending my first OHD at UoM. It was my first real glimpse into what my potential university experience could be like, and walking around campus allowed me to really imagine myself at UoM. Looking back, I’m really glad I went because I didn’t know what to expect. I came away from the offer holder day smiling, more informed, and feeling very confident about my decision to study at the University of Manchester. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t expecting all the staff to be so friendly and warm towards us, which was part of what convinced me to come here!

What to expect from our OHDs?

Most of our offer days are held in the afternoon one day in the week, with many activities and informative lectures for you to attend. We’ll be hosting multiple OHDs over the next semester to give you the choice to attend on a date that suits you best.

Upon arrival, you can expect to be welcomed and ushered into one of our lecture theatres by our lovely student ambassadors (maybe even myself!). Here you will receive your first talk of the day; a whistle-stop-tour of your course outline, and an introduction to members of The School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED) department.

We like to keep our offer holder days as engaging and as useful for our offer holders as possible. So you can get excited about our custom campus tours, refreshments and snacks, Q&A sessions with some of our lecturers and current students, and a lovely tour of our state-of-the-art Geography Labs (this is the bit physical geographers love the most, and of course – if you are a Geography offer holder) – plus you get to meet our labs staff!

Hopefully, that’s given you a glimpse into what to expect from one of our offer-holder days, and we can’t wait to welcome you to campus soon.

Written by Lilia, a current BA Geography Student.
