Hi, my name is Rouha, and I am a third year BSc (Hons) Education student, at The University of Manchester. I am really excited to be writing this blog, as I will be discussing some of the things that I have learnt from others on my course!

Firstly, one of the things that I have learnt from others on my course is how many career options the BSc (Hons) Education degree can offer in the field of education. I have learnt that many students in my course have different career aspirations within the field of education. Some aspire to become University professors, and some want to go into research. On the other hand, some aspire to become primary school teachers. Moreover, some may want to work in school administrations instead! Therefore, this degree can offer a variety of career opportunities in the field of education.

Additionally, some of the modules in this degree have a high emphasis on group work. Through working in groups, I believe that I have enhanced my teamworking skills, as well as my critical thinking skills. Through working in groups, I was able to expose myself to other students’ perspectives. By understanding their perspectives, I was able to enhance my critical thinking skills, and my teamworking skills.

Another way in which I have improved my teamworking skills is through being a peer mentor. Currently, I am a peer mentor, and part of being a peer mentor means attending meetings that are aimed at only peer mentors. In these meetings all peer mentors from BSc (Hons) Education including myself, gather and discuss what we have done to support our mentees. Through this I have further sharpened my teamworking skills. In addition to that I have also learnt that many of us, are also willing to try our best to support other students. This has made me more aware of how supportive the BSc (Hons) Education community is.

Moreover, another way in which I have learnt how supportive of a community the BSc (Hons) Education is, is through asking questions! I often found myself reaching out to my lecturers if I needed clarification on something. From my experience, I have learnt that the lecturers are always happy to help their students, and they encourage their students to ask them questions. Many of the lecturers, will let us students know about their office hours, in case we want to drop-in to ask any questions. Lecturers are also happy to answer any questions in lectures, and via email. This has also made me realise, of how supportive of a community the BSc (Hons) Education is.

In summary, I have learnt many things from others on my course. In this blog, I have discussed some of these things. Such as, being more aware of how many career opportunities the BSc (Hons) Education degree can offer, how this degree has enhanced my critical thinking and teamworking skills and how supportive is the BSc (Hons) Education community.
