What to expect from studying BSc Management at Manchester
Studying BSc Management at the University of Manchester and Alliance Manchester Business School offers a broad and flexible business education with opportunities to specialise in areas of interest.
The degree starts with core business modules in Year 1, covering topics such as Economics, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, Quantitative Methods and Accounting and Finance. Such topics enabled me to have a broad overview into different areas of business following which one is allowed to switch to specialism in Year 2 and 3. The different specialism pathways can be found here.
Teaching is mainly done through lectures and seminars which cover both theory and practical applications. The professors are highly qualified and I have found the teaching style to be interactive, often using real business case studies. Different modules have different assessment criteria and may involve group projects and case studies, presentations and reports and exams and coursework.
The Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) has strong links with global businesses offering internship opportunities, guest lectures & networking events and an award winning careers services providing CV help, mock interviews and job placements. The business school also provides access to many database software’s such as Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ which can be very expensive otherwise. The Careers Service had been instrumental in assisting me with my internship and job applications, following which I managed to secure a full-time job at Barclays in the Investment Banking Division in Canary Wharf, London.
The degree also offers a placement or a study abroad opportunity i.e. one can opt to take an year out working in the industry or spend the year abroad after their second year of studies. These placements provide invaluable professional experience while being a student, and more often than not extend a graduate job offer. Moreover, the study abroad at one of Manchester’s partner universities worldwide can be a great addition to the CV and developing soft skills.
Manchester is a vibrant city with a huge student community. There are societies for every interest. The societies that interest most to BSc Management students are MUTIS Finance Society, Manchester Business Society, Enactus (entrepreneurship projects) and 180 Degrees Consulting.

Thus, if you’re looking for a degree that combines academic excellence, practical business exposure, and strong career prospects, BSc Management is a fantastic choice. It offers the perfect blend of structure and flexibility, ensuring you graduate with a highly marketable skill set and a strong professional network.
