My Future Career Plans and Aspirations
Background
Since I was a little girl, I have had a knack for initiating a conversation with anyone. Fortunately, my supportive family, encouraging peers, a good education and opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities have shaped me into a capable individual. My positive and empathetic nature and well-rounded experiences so far have led me to where I am currently – an international student pursuing higher education in my field of interest from one of the most prestigious educational institutions.

Work Experience
I opted for a career in Human Resource Management when I realised that I am best suited for a profession which requires strong interpersonal, adaptive and motivational skills. Though I was warned against taking a break from studies as it would be difficult to get back into student mode after a gap, I chose to enter the corporate world to gain work exposure. I worked in the Human Resources department at two renowned organisations for about three years. This helped me get an understanding of some of its roles, which made me believe I would be able to relate better to the concepts and scenarios that will be covered in a curriculum. I understood the importance of furthering my education to not only strengthen my foundations, but also enhance my value as a working professional. The learnings at work helped me figure out the areas I wanted to develop my knowledge in.

Student Experience at The University of Manchester
I am currently pursuing my postgraduate degree in Human Resource Management (International Development) at The University of Manchester. This course falls under the Global Development Institute which focuses on individual and organizational growth. The conversations with professors and guest lecturers have given me valuable insights that I would not have been able to learn online. The well-rounded syllabus covering theoretical perspectives, practice, research and the core of Human Resource Management provides me with the skills I need to enhance performance.
I was thrilled to hear back positively from the university as it made me feel valued and also would be a giant step towards my career in the UK, a place where I have always wanted to settle down. From the various postgraduate offers I received, I selected this university for its outstanding reputation and commitment to a student-focused campus experience. Every aspect, including my accommodation, facilitates learning. During Welcome Week, we learnt about the university and city’s rich history and notable achievements which gave me hope for a bright future ahead.
Apart from studies, we also have career fairs that are easily accessible wherein we get to interact with professionals from various industries and listen to their experiences and advice on working in the UK. The on-campus careers cell is also useful as it helps cater our applications based on our fortes and the respective organisations’ needs.

Conclusion
Owing to my experiences, both academically and personally, I believe Human Resources is my calling and I wish to become a prominent figure in the industry by climbing the corporate ladder with efficient use of the knowledge and skills acquired here. After graduation, I hope to get a job in an organization that focuses equally on the growth of its business and employees. I wish to make significant changes in peoples’ lives and be a role model/mentor to HR aspirants. Regardless of where the road ahead takes me, I look to the future optimistically and will grab every opportunity that comes my way.
