Before joining AMBS, I studied at Sandbach School in Cheshire, where I developed a strong interest in problem solving and finding practical solutions to challenges. (Feel free to remove, not too relevant for BSc.)

I chose the BSc IBFE course with AMBS because it gave me the flexibility to shape the course around my interests. Alongside the core economics and finance modules, I could also explore areas like marketing and innovation, which gave me a broader commercial understanding that’s been instrumental in my career.

Some of the best parts of my time in Manchester were the opportunities outside the lecture theatre. My placement year with Mercedes Formula One Team was another huge highlight. Working as a Purchasing Placement Student showed me how the theory from IBFE applies in a fast-paced industry environment, from contract negotiation to international logistics. Celebrating Lewis Hamilton’s seventh World Championship in 2020 made the experience even more memorable. During my studies I also worked part-time for Monster Energy and Red Bull, which gave me a great insight into global brands and marketing, while also balancing my studies and life at university. In my final year, I became President of the UoM Surf Society, which was a great opportunity to lead a committee and develop skills outside academics.

After my placement year, I secured a graduate role with Mercedes Formula One Team before moving to Aston Martin Formula One Team, where I now work as a Lead Technical Buyer. My role involves managing upgrade packages and making sure the supply chain, design office and finance teams are aligned to deliver performance on track. As a lifelong Formula One fan, it’s been amazing to work alongside Adrian Newey on the development of the 2026 challenger.

The IBFE course with AMBS course gave me the commercial foundations and industry exposure that got me into Formula One. My advice to prospective students would be to keep an open mind about the industries and roles available to you, take every opportunity to gain experience and try something new.
