When I received my offer for the MSc Accounting program, I was so excited, but also pretty nervous about what life at the University of Manchester would actually be like. Looking back, my time at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) has exceeded every expectation.

The curriculum is thoughtfully structured to balance technical depth with practical application, ensuring that what we learn stays genuinely relevant. In our lectures and seminars, professors bring accounting to life using real-world business cases. Bouncing ideas off classmates from all over the world made every discussion engaging, and working through group projects together helped us build friendships that will last well beyond graduation. Outside the classroom, the professors are always approachable, incredibly patient, and genuinely encourage us to share our ideas. Coming to a foreign country by yourself is never easy, but the warmth from both the school and the faculty made me feel like I truly belonged here.

Academically, the biggest takeaway from this intense year has been the growth in my critical thinking. Instead of just memorizing numbers and models, I learned how to look at the bigger picture and question the business logic behind them. Another highlight was the Social Responsibility Placement arranged by the school, which gave me the chance to intern with a charity foundation. Working on practical tasks like streamlining management reporting processes, simplifying Excel models, and exploring automation tools wasn’t just a great way to apply what we learned in the course, it also gave me a real sense of accomplishment and tons of hands-on experience that I will always value.

Beyond academics, the AMBS Postgraduate Careers Service has been an incredible help. Navigating the job hunt can feel pretty overwhelming, but the career advisors made the process so much clearer and less stressful. Whether it was one-on-one career chats, fine-tuning my CV, or running through mock interviews, their practical tips and honest feedback made all the difference. On top of that, the school regularly hosts career fairs and guest lectures, which provided fantastic opportunities to network and get real insights directly from industry professionals. They truly gave me the confidence I needed to put my best foot forward in the job market.

The facilities and surroundings on campus are just as wonderful. The AMBS library is a fantastic place to study, where I spent countless hours in group discussions and focused revision. The campus blends historic charm with modern architecture and feels incredibly welcoming. Outside of uni, Manchester is such a comfortable city to live in. It has all the perks of a big city, yet feels grounded, friendly, and relaxed at the same time. Whether grabbing a coffee with friends or exploring the local culture on weekends, it instantly feels like home.

AMBS hasn’t just equipped me with solid professional skills, it has really boosted my self-belief.
