My journey to study at the University of Manchester
Where it all began
As a third-year BSc Psychology of Education student at the University of Manchester, I can honestly say that the past two years have been incredibly rewarding, helping me grow both academically and personally. Choosing a university course is a big decision, especially when trying to find something that genuinely interests you and aligns with your future plans!
Why I chose Bsc Psychology of Education?
I chose Bsc Psychology of Education as I have always been interested in working with children and always found it fascinating that every child is different and that there are so many things can that influence their experience of education. I wanted to understand this better, particularly when it comes to children with additional needs. What I particularly liked was how unique the course is, bringing together two subjects that are so closely linked but aren’t often studied together in this much depth. I also knew that I wanted a future working with children, so the course felt like a natural choice for me.
Why the University of Manchester?
Choosing the University of Manchester was an easy decision for me. I was really drawn to the course itself because of how it combined psychology and education, but I was also so excited by the opportunity to study at such a well-established university. I liked the idea of being part of a university with such a diverse student community and having the chance to meet people from different backgrounds. Manchester also felt like a city where I could enjoy student life alongside my studies. Looking back, I am really glad I made the decision to come here, as my experience has been about so much more than just getting a degree.
My experience studying Bsc Psychology of Education
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about studying Psychology of Education is how varied the course is. Over the past three years, I’ve had the opportunity to explore lots of different areas, from Social psychology of Education to Data Analysis. I’ve found it particularly interesting being able to link what we learn in lectures to real-life experiences and understand how psychological research can be applied to education.
Outside of my studies, I’ve also enjoyed getting involved in university life by becoming a peer mentor for first-year students. It’s been a really rewarding experience being able to help new students settle in and share some of the things I’ve learned along the way. I’ve also continued working with children, including those with additional needs, which has given me the opportunity to put some of what I’ve learned on the course into practice. These experiences have helped me develop both personally and academically, while also making me more certain about the career path I want to follow.
Looking back and looking forward
Looking back, choosing to study Psychology of Education has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Over the past three years, my interest in supporting children has grown even more, and I’ve become much clearer about the career I want to pursue. I’m now looking forward to my next step,
starting a Primary PGCE with QTS at the University of Manchester next year. I’m excited to take everything I’ve learnt throughout my degree and put it into practice in the classroom. For anyone considering the course, I’d encourage you to make the most of every opportunity and enjoy the experience!
