How to get involved

There are a number of ways to get involved in our audiology research.

Could you be an audiology volunteer?

We are looking for volunteers with all levels of hearing to join our database and take part in studies. Your participation is invaluable in teaching us more about communication and hearing health.

To find out more about our Hearing Health Research Volunteer Database you can download the Participant Information Sheet. Please complete the REDCap survey to join the database.

Recruiting studies

Active studies with public and patient participants are listed below. Please note, some of these studies may require referral from a healthcare professional.

Auditory Biomarkers of Healthy Ageing and Alzheimer’s Disease (ABHAD)

We are investigating how different auditory (hearing) measures change during ageing and how these may be different in early Alzheimer’s disease.

Communication Strategies for People with Hearing Loss

Our study is investigating the use of different communication strategies – tips or tricks that might help people to hear better – in different listening situations.

Extended high-frequency study

We are carrying out a study to determine whether a selection of tests that assess hearing ability in the “extended high frequencies” (what we perceive as very high-pitched sounds) can predict how well an individual hears speech in background noise.

Listening difficulty in individuals with normal hearing

In this research project, we try to understand why some people have difficulty understanding speech in noise even though they have normal or near normal hearing.

That looks noisy!

We are looking for volunteers, aged 18 and over, to take part in a study looking at a new hearing health questionnaire.

Patient and public involvement in research opportunities

Opportunities for patient and public involvement in shaping hearing research are listed below.

Childhood Deafness and Hearing Loss Research Priorities

We have recently completed a James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) in Childhood Deafness and Hearing Loss. Discover the Top 10 research priorities and join the Childhood Deafness Research network below.
