Thank you for your interest in vision-related research at The University of Manchester.

We are Eurolens Research, a University of Manchester research unit specialising in eye and contact lens research. We require volunteers to take part in our clinical studies, which take place at the University’s Oxford Road Campus (within easy access of Manchester city centre).

  • All studies are approved by an ethics committee and run by an experienced team of researchers and fully qualified optometrists.
  • Volunteers are financially reimbursed for their involvement.
  • Before taking part, you will receive a Participant Information Sheet that provides detailed study information.
  • Relevant COVID-19 safety measures are in place for the protection of our volunteers and staff.
  • On-site parking is available.

To demonstrate the real-life performance of a range of soft contact lens brands

Inclusion criteria

Contact lens wearers, aged 8-75, that wear specific contact lens brands. Other criteria apply and these will be checked with you  at the next stage of the recruitment process.

What’s involved

One clinic visit (approximately 1.5 hours), wearing your own contact lenses only. Eye examinations (including application of a standard optometric dye to your eyes), providing feedback on your contact lens experience and photography of your eyes (but not your face).

Reimbursement

If you take part you will receive financial reimbursement.

 

To compare the short-term clinical performance of two contact lenses which are designed to slow the progression of short-sightedness in children

Inclusion criteria

Volunteers (aged 8-15) who currently wear soft spherical contact lenses to correct their myopia (short-sightedness). Further inclusion criteria apply and these will be checked with you at the next stage of the recruitment process.

What’s involved

One clinic visit lasting approximately 2.5 hours, wearing two brands of myopia control contact lenses in clinic only, eye examinations, vision tests, feedback on the contact lenses.

If you take part you will receive financial reimbursement.

To compare acceptance of spectacles and contact lenses that are designed to slow the progression of short-sightedness in children

Inclusion criteria

Children (aged 8-12, inclusive) who could benefit from wearing spectacles and contact lenses to correct their myopia (short-sightedness). Further inclusion criteria apply and these will be checked with you at the next stage of the recruitment process.

What’s involved

Nine clinic visits, lasting approximately 45 minutes to 2 hours, during the 6- month duration of the study, wearing myopia-control spectacles and myopia-control contact lenses each for a 12-week period, vision tests, feedback on experience.
