Jeongmin Park, originally from South Korea, is studying MA International Education at Manchester, for which she was awarded the MIE (Manchester Institute of Education) Master’s Bursary. In her blog, she shares her advice for prospective students who are thinking about applying to a scholarship.

What’s your top advice for the applications process?

There is no bursary application process for this scholarship. Thankfully, The University of Manchester’s Admission Team contacted me to offer a scholarship.

I wrote a genuine statement based on my experience, motivation, and passion about why I would like to study at The University of Manchester. It would be helpful if you know the reason you want to study at this University, why you want to study this course, and what will help you in the future.

The scholarship has definitely provided financial assistance and stability for me to study and live in Manchester.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I want to become an EFL teacher at an international school.

The courses that the University provides will help me start my career path and assist me with enhancing my academic skills including research, development of ideas and concepts related to international education, and theory. Also, there is a project course in which I need to find an organisation to gain practical experience. I found Citywise, a volunteering organisation where I can get experience with young children and meet with other mentors which is a unique experience to have in this city. I believe this experience will add to my CV and give me a better chance of finding a job.

Manchester is a very big and diverse city. If you decide to come here you will have cross-cultural experiences and enjoy life here. Being a postgraduate student is intensive, but the experience will be unique and will help you further succeed in your future career.
