What it’s like to be a Student Ambassador
Hi! I’m Tim Mickleburgh. I’m a final year BSc Accounting student at the University of Manchester. This is what it’s like to be a Student Ambassador.
Answering questions from prospective students
I used Unibuddy web chat to speak to prospective students who were applying to the university or already held offers to join the university in the next academic year, answering their questions about university applications and what it’s like to be a student at the university.
Writing blogs
I have written blogs about student life to share my university experience with the next generation of students
Assisting at open days
I helped out at open days at Alliance Manchester Business School. I welcomed guests at the entrance and directed them to the lecture theatres where there were talks about the different programmes on offer. I supported my programme director Reimala Sivalingam at the talks about BSc Accounting and answered questions about my university experience as part of Q&A panels afterwards. I also took guests on tours of the building, showing them the lecture theatres and study spaces.
Filming video content
I spoke about my university experience in video content which was shared with offer holders who would be joining the BSc Accounting programme in the next academic year.
Presenting in front of new students
I gave presentations about my university experience in front of lots of new students at Meet our Student Ambassadors sessions and answered their questions as part of Q&A panels afterwards.
Taking new students on campus tours
I took groups of new students on tours of the campus, showing them the Alan Gilbert Learning Commons, the Main Library, the Old Quad and the Arch among other places around the campus. The campus tours have been my favourite thing to do as a Student Ambassador!
I really enjoyed being a Student Ambassador throughout my final year at The University of Manchester, and I would highly recommend other students to become one too. I will treasure my purple Student Ambassador t-shirt forever!
