Why I chose to study BSc Accounting at Manchester

Manchester is really an unforgettable city, and The University of Manchester is the educational centre of the whole city. I chose The University of Manchester to study Accounting for the following three reasons: Reputation and Accreditation, Career Opportunities and Networking, and the Curriculum and Facilities.

1. Reputation and Accreditation

The University of Manchester is highly regarded worldwide, known for its academic excellence and strong focus on employability. Within the UK, The University of Manchester has also earned a strong position in national subject rankings for Accounting and Finance, making it a popular choice for students aiming to gain expertise in these areas. Alliance Manchester Business School is known for producing graduates who are well-prepared for careers in accounting, finance, and other related fields. Its Accounting program is accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). At the time of graduation, you can also get most of the exemption exams, saving a lot of time. This gives graduates a head starts in professional qualifications and provides a well-recognized degree in the industry.

2. Career Opportunities and Networking

The University of Manchester has a strong reputation in the finance and accounting sectors, offering extensive links with top firms in the UK and globally. Almost every week, well-known companies come to the University to hold recruitment activities and will give out some small gifts. Not only the big four like EY, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, but also banking and finance services such as Barclays, NatWest, and Newton will come to our campus, which is easier and faster for me to get the latest opened jobs. In addition, as an Accounting student, we also had a course called Professional Accounting Practice in second year. I like this course very much because it pays special attention to future career development. Many employees from enterprises are invited to talk to us, and HR teams from famous companies also help us conduct mock interviews and revise our resumes. We also hold social events regularly and invite well-known businesses to give speeches in our school as guests, such as KPMG and Manchester Airport Group. After class, we can also have one-on-one questions with them, which is very helpful for the development of my personal connections. Studying there provides access to networking opportunities, internships, and job placements with major employers. This is invaluable for building practical experience and professional contacts.

3. Curriculum and Facilities

As an Accounting student, I am based in the Alliance Manchester Business School, which is one of the most advanced buildings at Manchester. AMBS provides modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and group study spaces designed to support collaborative and independent learning. Facilities like these should be appreciated for their accessibility, technology integration, comfort, and ability to support various learning styles.

We have great technological resources here, such as computer labs, financial databases, and trading rooms that simulate real-life financial markets. For example, AMBS offers access to Bloomberg terminals and financial databases, crucial for Accounting and Finance students. This technology meets current industry standards and is readily available for students to use. AMBS also provides dedicated spaces for career services, networking events, and employer engagement activities. There is a high frequency and quality of career workshops, networking opportunities, and company presentations, as these contribute to students’ professional growth.

These factors make Manchester an ideal choice for studying Accounting, offering both a strong academic foundation and a vibrant student experience.
