• A brief overview of your background before joining the programme
Before joining the program, I was working as an instrument Engineer in a major Oil and Gas company based in Indonesia. I was working for 7 years and specialized mainly on process analyzers.

• Why you chose MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at The University of Manchester
While working as an engineer, I noticed a gap of local products in the industry. Most of the instrumentation were international products imported from overseas. From here I had an interest on why there is a gap in the country between Ideas and innovations that are successful. Looking at innovation courses, I found the IME course from University of Manchester. The syllabus offered from the course on the website was a big factor in my decision

• Memorable experiences or key takeaways from your time here
All the projects like building a startup, case studies, making strategic reports were very useful. The open discussions with the lecturers and the class were very good. Outside of the class, I also had experience as a student ambassador which was also very memorable.

• Your career development or current role since graduating
Since graduating I have joined an oil and gas consultant which was founded by an Indonesian living in the UK (i-vigilant). We have our own software which is used in clients all over the world. I work in the team hoping to learn from the founder of the company. Some of my roles include providing consultation reports for clients, helping in projects within the companies and helping in applying for grants for new innovation coming from the company.

• How the course supported your career development
The course has opened the path to where I work with. It has also given me the tools to not just be an engineer but also look at how to be strategic within a company. I am no longer just an engineer, but I am also able to help with the strategic business side of the company.

• Any advice you’d offer to future applicants
Do apply for the course, this course and the lecturers are very capable in helping you find the tools needed to take that step forward in your career!
