A brief overview of my background before joining the programme
Before joining the programme, I was working with Reliance Retail in their JioMart Digital segment, where I was responsible for managing the platform operations for the CDIT (Consumer Durables and Information Technology) category. My role involved overseeing product listings, ensuring catalogue accuracy and optimising visual merchandising on the platform to enhance the overall customer experience and drive engagement.
Alongside my professional experience, I have always had a strong interest in the field of marketing. During my early academic and professional journey, I pursued multiple internships in marketing and brand-related roles, which allowed me to gain practical exposure to campaign execution, consumer engagement and brand communication. These experiences not only strengthened my interest in the discipline but also helped me understand the strategic and creative aspects of marketing.
This combination of hands-on experience in digital retail and my long-standing interest in marketing ultimately motivated me to pursue the programme, as I wanted to deepen my understanding of marketing strategy and further develop the skills required to build impactful brands.
Why I chose MSc Marketing at The University of Manchester
The University of Manchester is one of the top-ranked universities in the world. As my interest in marketing developed, I began exploring leading universities where I could pursue an MSc in Marketing. During this search, I came across Alliance Manchester Business School at The University of Manchester, and it immediately stood out to me.
The programme’s curriculum was well structured and aligned closely with my interests in marketing. Additionally, receiving the Global Futures Scholarship from the University further reinforced my decision and motivated me to pursue the programme there.
After speaking with a few alumni, I realised that the course offered much more than just classroom learning. It emphasised practical exposure through business projects and real-world case studies, which helped students develop the skills required to navigate corporate environments effectively.
Manchester as a city also played an important role in my decision. It is a vibrant and multicultural city where people from diverse nationalities and backgrounds come together. Living in such an environment allowed me to interact with individuals from different cultures, helping me develop strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
Considering the University’s global reputation, the strength of the curriculum, the faculty, and the opportunity to live and learn in such a diverse city, The University of Manchester was the ideal place for me to pursue my MSc in Marketing.
Memorable experiences or key takeaways from my time here
There are countless memories that come to mind when I reflect on my time in Manchester. It was truly one of the most enriching and enjoyable phases of my life, offering the perfect blend of learning and memorable experiences.
One of the highlights of my programme was the business project we worked on for Procter & Gamble (P&G). Our team was tasked with developing a strategy to address challenges the company was facing in European markets. The entire process—from conducting research and gathering insights to building the final presentation and presenting our ideas to senior leaders—was an incredible learning experience. Receiving an honourable mention from the team made the experience even more rewarding and was truly the cherry on top.
Beyond academics, the university offered numerous opportunities for personal growth. Attending workshops, participating in sports, and collaborating with classmates from different countries and cultural backgrounds was a great experience. These interactions helped me develop strong teamwork and cross-cultural communication skills.
Life outside the classroom was equally memorable. Exploring the city with friends, experiencing Manchester’s vibrant culture, and watching football matches as a fan of Manchester United created moments that I will always cherish.
I also actively contributed to the university community by joining various clubs and serving as both a student representative and a student ambassador. These roles allowed me to engage more closely with students and faculty while developing leadership and organisational skills.
Overall, Alliance Manchester Business School truly felt like home during that year. The experiences, friendships, and lessons I gained there have had a lasting impact on both my personal and professional growth.
My career development and current role since graduating
Since graduating, I have pursued a career path that allows me to explore the nuances of marketing—something that aligns closely with my interests and is genuinely exciting for me to work on every day.
I am currently working with NoBrokerHood in Mumbai, India, my home country. I initially joined the organisation as a Brand Manager and, within a short period, progressed to my current role as a Regional Manager. I was fortunate to receive the fastest double promotion within the organisation, achieving this milestone in 12 months compared to the average timeline of 24 months.
In my current role, I lead a team and oversee marketing initiatives for multiple brands across the country. Our team is responsible for executing both digital and below-the-line (BTL) marketing campaigns for brands associated with NoBrokerHood, creating targeted engagement opportunities within premium residential communities across India.
Transitioning into a leadership role and managing a team has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has allowed me to combine strategic thinking with execution while working closely with brands to deliver impactful marketing campaigns.
Looking back, my time at The University of Manchester, particularly at Alliance Manchester Business School, played a crucial role in shaping the professional I am today. The experience helped me develop strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills while working with people from diverse backgrounds. More importantly, Manchester went beyond academic preparation; it shaped how I think about organisations, people, and building workplaces that prioritise well-being. It instilled in me a broader perspective on how businesses operate and how individuals contribute to them. These learnings continue to influence the way I approach my work today and inspire me to contribute meaningfully to the evolving world of work.
How the course supported my career development
The MSc. Marketing programme was beautifully structured, striking the right balance between academic learning and practical application. Each module was thoughtfully designed to build a strong foundation in marketing while gradually introducing more strategic and analytical aspects of the field.
The classroom environment was highly engaging and interactive. Discussions, case studies, and collaborative projects made learning both enjoyable and insightful. Analysing real-world business scenarios and studying how different organisations approached marketing challenges gave us a deeper understanding of how theories translate into practice.
The programme also helped me develop a wide range of essential skills required in the marketing profession. From brainstorming and idea generation to strategy development, teamwork, and leadership, the course encouraged us to think critically and approach problems creatively. Working on group projects with classmates from diverse backgrounds further strengthened my communication, negotiation, and people-management skills.
There were certainly moments when the programme challenged me—balancing multiple assignments, projects, and deadlines could be demanding. However, those experiences played a crucial role in helping me grow, both professionally and personally. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the ability to manage pressure effectively.
Overall, the course provided not only strong academic knowledge but also invaluable life skills. The combination of practical exposure, collaborative learning, and strategic thinking helped prepare me for the professional world and continues to support my growth in the marketing industry today.
Any advice you’d offer to future applicants
One of the first pieces of advice that comes to mind is to remain open to every opportunity that comes your way and not hesitate to step outside your comfort zone. Growth truly happens when you take on new challenges, meet new people, and maintain a genuine curiosity and hunger to learn.
At The University of Manchester, there are an incredible number of resources available to support both academic and personal development. From the extensive libraries and study spaces to excellent sports and gym facilities, the university provides everything needed to help students grow holistically. The faculty at Alliance Manchester Business School are also extremely supportive, so I would encourage students to stay curious and actively engage with them. Ask questions, seek guidance, and make the most of the knowledge and experience they bring.
Another important aspect of the experience is building connections. Try to meet as many people as you can, interact with classmates from different backgrounds, and build meaningful relationships. These connections often stay with you for a lifetime and become an invaluable part of your personal and professional network.
Taking up internships or part-time roles is not mandatory, but if time permits, it can certainly add significant value to your overall profile. Such experiences allow you to develop practical skills outside the classroom and gain early exposure to the professional world.
Most importantly, remember that the year will pass by incredibly quickly. Make sure you maintain a healthy balance between academics and your social life. Participate in activities, join clubs, explore the city, and embrace every opportunity that comes your way. Each experience will contribute to your growth.
Enjoy the journey and make the most of your time there—it will be one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of your life. One day, when you look back on those moments, you will realise just how meaningful and special that time was.
