Dame Nancy Rothwell, the neuroscientist who is vice chancellor of Manchester University, said that the early vaccines for COVID-19 may not be as effective as many hope.

“We eradicated smallpox because we’ve got an amazing vaccine that absolutely protects you,” she said. “It’s quite likely we’ll get a vaccine that gives partial protection [to COVID-19]. That will be helpful, but it won’t eradicate it.”
