Dr Matthew Sinton from the Lydia Becker Institute at The University of Manchester has been named as one of the prestigious Rising Stars for IUIS 2025, an honour awarded by the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS).

Matthew’s selection follows a rigorous international review process conducted by the IUIS 2025 Rising Stars Programme Committee. Candidates were evaluated based on their scientific achievements, leadership potential, and community impact. This recognition places him among a select group of early-career immunologists from around the world who are making exceptional contributions to the field.

As an IUIS Rising Star, Matthew will present his research at the IUS 2025 Congress taking place from August 17th–22nd, in Vienna, Austria.

Dr Matthew Sinton is a Research Fellow at the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation, who was awarded a Wellcome Trust Early Career Award Fellowship in 2024 to research how cytokines (IL-17 and others) drive changes in body fat (adipose tissue mass), brain communication, and immune cell function.

Matthew is also the founder of The STEM Village, a platform designed to improve the visibility of the LGBTQ+ STEM community around the world.
