Hi, I’m Jamie, and I’ve just started my PhD in medical mycology. I’m originally from Sheffield and completed my undergraduate degree in Zoology at the University of Glasgow. After that, I moved to Manchester for a Master’s in Infection Biology, where I worked on a research project with the Manchester Fungal Infection Group (MFIG). Since then, I spent the last year working as a research technician in the lab while applying for this PhD.

For my four-year project, I’m focusing on antifungal resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus using a One Health approach. I’ll be investigating how resistance develops to both currently used and novel antifungals across human health, animals, and the environment. A key part of this research is to better understand the mechanisms of resistance in A. fumigatus, which can help improve diagnostic tools for surveillance and contribute to strategies for preventing the emergence and spread of resistance.
