Year 3 – Student Selected Career Placement (SSCP)

Student selected career placements are an opportunity for students to fully immerse themselves into a speciality to help guide future career choice.

Students should aim to acquire in-depth knowledge about that speciality, including portfolio careers (such as specialist interest roles) and non-clinical aspects (such as practice management, PCN/federation work, education).

They will be expected to produce a 300 word reflective report by the end of the placement, outlining how the placement has helped inform their career thoughts.

What the placement involves

Supervisors should be present for >80% of the placement and nominate a suitable deputy when absent. They will have formal reviews with the student at the start and end of the placement.

Supervisors should discuss learning objectives at the initial meeting and develop a timetable to help achieve these.

They should sign off the student at the end of the placement taking into account their attendance, work habits and reflective report.

Dates for 2024-25

SSCP is a 3 week block, running from 23/06/25 – 11/07/25.

Supervision will be one student per Clinical Placement Supervisor and students will be expected to attend every day for the three week block.
