Why did I decide to study at The University of Manchester?

There are three key reasons that I chose to study in Manchester:

1. University Ranking

2. Career platform

3. City advantages

The first and most important point about why I chose to study at Manchester is the University’s world ranking and professional ranking. The University of Manchester is consistently ranked in the top 50 in the world, and the Business School is one of the oldest business schools in the UK, so Manchester is a good choice for your university career. As the largest university with a single campus in the UK, the teaching buildings of The University of Manchester are mainly concentrated in one area, which is convenient for everyone to attend classes without the problem of running to the campus, and the school also provides free commuter buses to provide convenience for students.

The second point is that The University of Manchester provides a good career platform. In class, teachers from The University sometimes invite some external enterprises to give speeches. For example, in my Financial Reporting module, the lecturer Jennifer invited the senior audit staff from MAG (Manchester Airport Group) to give a speech in the lecture. For another example, in my Auditing module, some senior managers and partners of KPMG (One of the Big Four accounting firms) were invited to explain to us what audit is. We can also have in-depth communication with them after class, and leaving contact information can also be very useful for future employment development.

In addition, the school has a specialist Careers Service, which means that there are many career opportunities for students here, whether it is a part-time job or an internship. As a first-year student, when I was just beginning to learn about some internship programmes for next spring, I had no idea how to prepare for it. Just as I was confused, I came across the Careers Service that advertised free consultations within AMBS. I was very excited to communicate with them, and they also gave me a lot of help, booking a meeting with me to help me complete my resume.

The third point is Manchester’s geographical advantages and urban appearance. Manchester is in the middle of the United Kingdom, and its transport links are very developed, so during the holidays it can be good to go to the nearby cities to play. Further north from Manchester are the very old cities of Durham, Edinburgh, Leeds, York, and Glasgow. To the south are Birmingham, London and so on; Manchester is a good choice for students who love to travel! In addition, British football culture is famous across the world, and Manchester has two of the top teams in the UK, Manchester City and Manchester United. At the weekend, you can watch a football match to relax and relieve the pressure of studying. There are also plenty of museums and galleries in Manchester that are free for students to visit. So, whether you like travelling, sports or relaxing, you are welcome in Manchester!
