Immuno-Oncology One Manchester conference

The Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation attended the Immuno-Oncology One Manchester conference on the 12th of February 2019 at the Alderley Park Conference Centre. Institute Director, Professor Tracy Hussell introduced the Lydia Becker Institute and how the Institute has allowed the ties between immunology research at the University and cancer research at the MCRC to be more focussed and how this collaborative interaction is being strengthened through interactions between the Institute and Immuno-oncology network.

Fiona Thistlethwaite at the Immuno-Oncology One Manchester conference The day also included a selection of interesting talks on the how the immune system can be utilised to  fight cancer – and how manipulating the immune response can result in more effective treatments. Dr Fiona Thistlethwaite also gave an informative talk on the history of iMATCH and how it links SMEs, clinicians and researchers with the aim of moving targeted immunotherapies into wider larger scale clinical use. This seamlessly linked into a series of elevator pitches from SMEs discussing their latest developments in immunotherapies for cancer.
