Lydia Becker Institute researcher Dr Juan Quinatana has been awarded a prestigious Springboard award by The Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS).

Juan is one of 54 ‘exceptional’ biomedical and health researchers who will benefit from the £6.6 million Springboard funding scheme.

Springboard provides awards of up to £125,000 to help newly independent biomedical scientists launch their research careers. Along with the funding, Springboard recipients benefit from the Academy’s mentoring opportunities and career development programmes.

Juan’s research will investigate how autoimmune disorders affecting the brain are generated. The results of this work have the potential to be translated and applied to treat other infections affecting the brain, as well as other autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis and lupus.
