Benefiting patients through THOR-GP reporting

Dr A Dayani describes the benefits of reporting to THOR-GP.

Reporting to THOR-GP allows development of my occupational medicine skills, and helps maintain my interest in general practice.

Enquiring about work and specifically how it affects their health (and vice versa) offers fascinating insights into patients’ lives in the course of normal practice.

Patients enjoy being asked about their occupations and hobbies. The information helps to build a better relationship, often proves invaluable and aids provision of holistic care.

The reporting task is not in itself onerous and provides a welcome respite from the QoF! Reports are generally completed in under five minutes, and the monthly reporting cycle helps provide a reminder to maintain vigilance.

Reporting feels valuable, and the feedback and education offered through the website and quarterly reports are useful methods of continuing professional development.

It is a pleasure to play a small part in a research project providing insight into the true incidence of work-related problems.
