Seminar Series: Suzan Verstappen
The second seminar in our series was delivered yesterday by University of Manchester reader Dr Suzan Verstappen.
Suzan is an epidemiologist in rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) at the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research at Manchester, and a Co-Investigator at the MRC Versus Arthritis Centre for Musculoskeletal Health and Work, University of Southampton.
Her main research areas of interest are the (long-term) outcomes and its predictors of people with RMDs, with a special focus on work outcomes. She is involved in several national and international studies on work.
Dr Verstappen’s seminar, Working with musculoskeletal and rheumatic diseases, explored the burden of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Disorders (RMDs) in the UK and Europe, and the challenges and barriers faced by those living with these diseases.
Suzan talked about some of her own research in rheumatoid arthritis. The talk ended with some examples of resources for employers to better understand RMDs, and was followed by a great discussion about musculoskeletal health and the possible impact of homeworking due to COVID-19.
This seminar series is exclusively available to THOR reporters and COEH students and staff. If you are a THOR reporter and missed the original lecture, please contact us to request the recording.
