For the academic year 2024-2025, Professor Dame Robina Shah, Director of the Doubleday Centre, is hosting a short series of online ‘conversations’ featuring four of its distinguished Doubleday National Ambassadors – all of whom are leading experts in the fields of health, social care, medicine and law.

The series will be supported by the Doubleday Student Society and open to all undergraduate medical students and staff supporting the MBChB course.

The third speaker in our 2024-2025 conversation series features Professor Sir Bruce Keogh. In his distinguished career, Sir Bruce Keogh has served as a cardiac surgeon, Commission for Health Improvement board member, NHS England’s national medical director and the Chair of the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Throughout his esteemed career, Sir Keogh has had a keen interest in health quality and patient care. Currently, his focus is directed into improving our infrastructure to facilitate the most advanced care to patients.

The title of Sir Keogh’s presentation is ‘Science, Society and Health: A Clash of Expectations’. The conversation took place on Wednesday 9 April 2025, and you can watch a recording of it below and on YouTube.
