On 15 October, The University of Manchester proudly presented the 2025 Doubleday/Manchester Award to Dr Margaret McCartney, honouring her exceptional contributions to patient-centred care.

As a GP, author, broadcaster, and academic, Dr McCartney has long championed evidence-based medicine, transparency in healthcare, and empowering patients to make informed decisions. Her lecture offered a compelling call to action for clinicians and educators to place patient values at the heart of every healthcare conversation.

With this award, Dr McCartney also assumes the role of 2025 National Ambassador for Patient Experience, continuing the legacy of the Doubleday Award in recognising individuals who elevate the standards of care across the UK. Her influence spans media, policy, and education, and her voice remains a powerful force in advocating for integrity and accountability in medicine.

The event was a celebration not only of her achievements, but of the shared commitment to improving patient experience at every level of healthcare.
