How feeding cues and circadian rhythms in IgA converge to regulate the microbiota – Science Immunology

Immune tolerance Branch Lead Dr Matt Hepworth along with co-authors Dr Hugo Penny and Dr Rita Domingues have been published in the September 2022 issue of the prestigious Science Immunology journal with their study investigating how feeding cues and circadian rhythms in IgA converge to regulate the microbiota.

Some of the key findings included:

  • circadian biology – time of feeding – helped to set IgA rhythm
  • time of day differences in predicted microbial biology is also impacted by rhythms in IgA

The study provided an insight into how gut homeostasis is supported through a complex web of relationships connecting feeding behaviors, the daily cycle of gut mucosal IgA synthesis, and circadian oscillations among commensal microbiota

We encourage you to take a look at the Hepworth Lab’s excellent Twitter thread on the study and you can read the full paper here
