Both Mizna and Afrah presented papers as part of the Maldives’ first National Research Conference which was held in Malé on the 30 June 2018. The conference, which was organised by ENDEVOR, was on the theme of ‘Development and Social Values’.

Mizna’s presentation was about traditional and spiritual beliefs held by local island communities in the Maldives, and how these beliefs translate into their use and management of local reef resources. Afrah’s presentation, which drew on data and observations from the Environmental Change and Everyday Lives project, examined how young people in the Maldives are engaged in livelihood activities that contribute to economic development.
