In May 2020, the Healthy Ageing Research Group teamed up with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Ageing Hub and Greater Manchester Older People’s Network to support those who had been instructed to self-isolate. The move from face-to-face to digital communications disproportionally impacted on older people, many of whom were digitally excluded.

The Keeping Well at Home booklet was the first of a series of campaigns which, following a formal evaluation, was redesigned and became the Keeping Well this Winter series of resources. These were distributed to older people living in and across Greater Manchester.

It was such a success that other local areas across the UK replicated the booklets, materials and resources. It was also adapted in Canada and Australia, and translated into different languages across Europe. The Keeping Well Campaign was featured as a case study by the World Health Organisation demonstrating good practice for inclusion of older people during the pandemic.
