Navigating the Unknown: Embracing Uncertainties as New Beginnings

For individuals like myself, moving to a new country, city, or university can evoke concerns about the uncertainties that might unfold in the coming weeks. Fortunately, at The University of Manchester, we have Fresher’s Week! This event proved to be one of the best activities I’ve ever attended, significantly alleviating my worries.

During Fresher’s Week, you get the chance to meet and chat with people in your program, and it’s more than just a one-day event – it spans an entire week. Plus, you can talk to different people in your program every day. This opens opportunities to meet potential group members and allows you to make like-minded friends for shopping and travel adventures.

Moreover, the week introduces various resources, ranging from assistance with IT-related issues to guidance for academic and career-related concerns. The University of Manchester is committed to helping you navigate your academic journey, offering essential support and resources to ensure your success.

Thriving in Transition: Unveiling the First Semester Journey

Receive weekly emails from UoM Student News, AMBS Postgraduate Careers Service, and Student Union updates to stay informed about campus events, enriching your university experience. For instance, UoM Student News and Student Union updates highlighted events like the Careers Fair, Volunteering and Social Justice Fair, Vintage Clothes Fair, and Societies Fair in the first few weeks. The AMBS Postgraduate Careers Service regularly reminds students about weekly drop-in sessions, alumni career insight conferences, MSc Career Skills, and other new events or sessions.

As a student here, you can shape your university life by choosing experiences based on your preferences and creating a personalised journey aligned with your interests, goals, and unique aspirations.

University life goes beyond personal development and well-being; academic study is also crucial. With various class formats such as lectures, tutorials, and workshops, different teaching methods are designed to provide a well-rounded learning experience, helping you grasp both theory and practical skills. Each class offers a unique opportunity to explore and deepen your understanding within the vibrant university setting.

Streets and Stories: A Semester-Long Exploration of Manchester

My impression of Manchester was formed by its well-known football teams before I arrived here. However, after two months of being in this city, I believe it deserves to be explored by more people to capture its shining charm. There are many beautifully decorated coffee shops, the artistic Northern Quarter, delicious food from different countries, and the chance to converse with people from different cultures, among other things. All these elements contribute to moulding Manchester into a unique, glamorous, and vibrant city.

Gaining more and deeper knowledge is one of the reasons students choose to study abroad. However, it’s also about communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds, managing various and complex situations throughout the year, and making the best use of the experience to shape an improved self.
