Why I Chose to Study German and Business & Management

Growing up in an international environment exposed me to the power of languages and a love for diverse cultures. This early exposure ignited a curiosity about the world and its workings and a desire to make the lives of those around me better. It was clear that pursuing a joint honours degree in Modern Language German and Business and Management was the natural path for me.

Balancing the dual-degree program, I decided on a 60% business and 40% German module split. While managing such a varied curriculum can be challenging, I’ve made it work, thanks in part to my trusty Google Calendar. When things get overwhelming, the support of my academic advisor and professors has been invaluable, showing that I’m not navigating this journey alone.

The beauty of this program lies in its flexibility. I’ve been able to tailor my degree to my interests, exploring subjects like Spanish and Psychology, along with unique modules such as Understanding Mental Health and Creativity, Design, and Entrepreneurship. I’ve never been one for a predictable, straight-forward degree, and this program has allowed me to delve into fields I might have never explored otherwise.

Finances as an international student can be a tricky puzzle, but I was fortunate to land the role of a student ambassador for my faculty. Working on campus, fitting my job around my class schedule, has not only been a smart financial move but also a means to connect with the university community.

My joint honours degree has become a standout feature in job interviews. It demonstrates that I can juggle two different subjects, emphasizing ambition and organizational skills, which are crucial for the roles I am interested in.

Participating in various campus societies has added depth and richness to my university experience. I joined the business fraternity on campus, AKPsi, during my second year of studies, and it was a decision I’ve never regretted. Not only did I forge some of my strongest friendships here, but the professional development training also helped me grow both as a person and as a professional. Having spent considerable time in the fraternity, I now serve as the Vice President of Membership, an opportunity to guide others through the intricacies of recruitment and the professional world.

In addition to my involvement in the business fraternity, I’ve also connected with my culture through membership in the Bulgarian society. My passion for movement and music finds an outlet in classes hosted by the Dance, and Salsa and Bachata societies.

Studying MLBM has been a journey of self-discovery. The pinnacle of my academic adventure has been the year I spent studying and working in Berlin. It was simultaneously the most challenging and the most fun experience of my life. Gaining true independence for the first time was a daunting task, but it completely transformed my outlook on life.

In essence, choosing a joint honours degree is for those who relish coloring outside the lines, those who want to avoid being confined to a single path for the rest of their lives. This program not only opens doors to a myriad of professional opportunities but also facilitates the building of an exceptional network and support system, bringing together people from all corners of the globe. It’s a ticket to explore, learn, and grow in a world of limitless possibilities.
