
Congratulations to the Turnberg cup winner 2025-26
Congratulations to Dr Max Lyon, who has won the 2025-26 Daniel Turnberg Cup at the recent Integrated Clinical Academic Training (ICAT) Symposium!
The Daniel Turnberg Cup is awarded annually to a University of Manchester Clinical Academic Trainee (in Medicine or Surgery) who has made an excellent contribution to clinical research and who has effectively communicated their research findings.
Dr Max Lyon presented his abstract submission – “Clinical Indications Associated with New Opioid Use for Pain Management in the United Kingdom”. Max is is a Rheumatology academic clinical fellow in his third year. His research interests include opioid prescribing, myositis and cardiovascular involvement in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. During his ACF, he has presented his research both nationally and internationally in addition to being awarded the Versus Arthritis Research highlight of the year.
Congratulations also to the runners up of the Turnberg Cup (pictured below) – Dr Kelechi Njoku with the abstract submission – “Developing an Innovative Point-of-Care Diagnostic Test for Endometrial Cancer,” and Dr Alicia-Marie Conway “Utilising circulating free DNA (cfDNA) methylation profiling for the detection of difficult to diagnose cancers”.
