2021-2022 Final Event

by | Dec 8, 2021 |

Aid practitioners visited our last class on 6 December 2021. Our visitors this year were:

  • Denise McDowell, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit
  • Emma Richardson, Student Development & Community Engagement at the University of Manchester
  • Georgia Alexiou, British Red Cross and former Social Anthropology student at Manchester
  • Jennifer Moore, PhD Researcher working on period poverty at the University of Manchester

They read the students’ lesson plans ahead of the visit and offered really useful insights, linking anthropological concepts with their professional experiences.

As you can see, social distancing and masking were in place, but that did not stop us from having great conversations!

The visitors also gave tips on how to enter a career in the charity and aid sector. All of them stressed that the most important thing is to convey your passion about an issue or the work–to show that ‘spark’ that distinguishes you from everyone else. And of course, having volunteering experience on your CV also helps, even if it is only for a couple of hours a week.

We look forward to seeing them again next year!
