2025-6 Final event

In the last lecture, we welcomed 4 professionals: (1) from the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit; (2) a PhD researcher and practitioner in menstrual health in the UK and Uganda; (3) from the Start Network; and (4) from the Student Development & Community Engagement office at the University of Manchester.

The students shared the ‘unessay’ outputs they had created with the visitors, ranging from tabletop games to a visual exploration of charity campaigns. Their creativity in exploring academic analyses through non-textual means impressed the visitors. 

  

The class overall has focused on employability skills, thanks to a grant from the School of Social Sciences. The essay questions asked students to engage with case studies based on real-life scenarios and to write imaginary job application letters. Similarly, in the small group projects, the students had to figure out how to express scholarly arguments in accessible and engaging formats. 

The students did an outstanding job making academic work fun and relevant to practitioners’ concerns. Well done!
