Rachel Gibson at the International PolCampaigns Expo (IPE25)
On the 23rd and 24th of January, Rachel Gibson participated at the International PolCampaigns Expo (IPE25), held in Cape Town, South Africa. The theme for this expo was “Unlocking voter potential: The art of resourcing and skilling for winning campaigns”. Rachel appeared as one of the experts and co-organised a session together with Dr. Tendai Murisa about how digital tools are shaping electoral democracy.
The IPE25 report gives a summary of the session:
The commission explored best practices for creating effective logistics frameworks and developing mobilisation strategies to enhance voter engagement and participation. Effective mobilisation is the foundation of successful political campaigns. Unfortunately, many campaigns are hampered by outdated mobilisation techniques and a lack of skilled personnel, leading to disengaged supporters and low voter turnout.
The commission stressed the importance of well-defined logistical frameworks which provide clear guidelines regarding resource allocation and project timelines. They also emphasised that a successful campaign framework should prioritise audience identification, voter segmentation, and tailored strategies to maximise outcomes. Volunteer recruitment was also highlighted as a crucial element in the mobilisation process, as it not only fosters political participation by passionate loyalists, but also helps reduce costs associated with salaries.
